Dr. Ricci Kelso

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Dr. Ricci Kelso, whose unwavering compassion and dedication defined more than three decades of service at LeSueur Veterinary Service and Belle Plaine Animal Hospital. Though she retired in late 2023, the impact of her work and the warmth she brought to every life she touched will be felt for years to come.

A Life Guided by Compassion

Dr. Ricci’s love for animals was evident from an early age. A farm girl at heart, she found joy in caring for horses, pigs, goats, cows, dogs, and cats; an early connection that inspired a lifelong calling to veterinary medicine. After earning her degree in biology from the University of Minnesota, she went on to graduate at the top of her class from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 1989.

Dr. Kelso’s 34-year career was marked by tireless dedication, medical excellence, and an unwavering love for the animals she served. She brought warmth, wisdom, and intuition to every interaction. A gifted diagnostician and skilled surgeon, Dr. Kelso was also a trusted confidant to clients whose relationships with her often spanned generations of both pets and people. Known for her honesty, humility, and calm presence, “Doctor Ricci” provided more than veterinary care; she offered comfort, connection, and lasting trust.

She was more than a colleague to her team; she was family. She nurtured everything she touched: animals, ideas, faith, friendships, and most of all, family.

Her influence endures in every exam room, every patient chart, and every comforting word we offer because she showed us how to lead with compassion and integrity.
